BORJOMI, VARDZIA, RABAT
BORJOMI – a resort city in south-eastern Georgia is located at an altitude of 810-850 meters above sea level. Famous for its mineral water Borjomi, which occupies the first position of export of Georgia. Borjomi mineral water is popular in the former Soviet Union. In Borjomi gorge there are more than 200 historical monuments: fortresses, churches and monasteries. A special place among historical monuments occupies the palace of the Russian tsars of the Romanovs, built in the late XVIII century.
VARDZIA monastery complex dates back to XII-XIII centuries and is situated in southern Georgia. It is an outstanding monument of medieval Georgian architecture.
There is also the Akhaltsikhe fortress known as “RABAT FORTRESS” – a medieval fortress in the south of present-day Georgia, It is situated in the town of Akhaltsikhe in the territory of the historical region Mtskhetia. The history of the fortress goes back to 1578, when the city was taken by Ottoman troops.
