KUTAISI, BAGRATI, PROMTHEUS CAVE or SATAPLIA RESERVE
During this interesting tour you will be able to visit GELATY MONASTERY which is situated near Kutaisi. It is the most significant medieval monastery in Georgia. It was the Center of Church and cultural life, the residence of the Catholicos from the 2nd half of the XVI century until 1814, a monument of UNESCO (1994).
The monastery was founded by King David IV the Builder in 1106, and became his tomb. The church is decorated with mosaics, which are considered the best in the whole Caucasus. At that time the monastery was the seat of the Gelati Academy.
BAGRATI TEMPLE was built in Kutaisi, in the reign of Bagrat III as the main palace of the kingdom, and consecrated in honor of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in 1003. There was crowned David IV Builder. During the attack of the Turks in 1691 gunpowder explosion destroyed the roof and dome of the cathedral and it was not reconstructed since then. In 1994, the temple was included into the list of UNESCO heritage. The temple was rebuilt in 2012.
The next place which you will visit during this tour is PROMETHEUS CAVE, also known as the Cave Kumistavi – karst cave in the west Georgia, near the town of Tskaltubo. The total length of the cave is about 11 km of which are open to visitors only 1060 m. There are 15 areas in the cave, each of which is equipped with dynamic lighting. Land between the zones also is highlighted by static light.
